Thu 25 Sep 2025 - Preparing for competitions followed by images I like
Advice on how to prepare for club competitions, helpful to new members and a refresher to those who have been members for a while. The second part of the evening we ask members to bring an image or two that they like. These are not necessarily competition quality images but one you like and tell us why you like it. Maybe it reminds you of a happy time, makes you smile when you look at it, the reasons does not matter. Hope to see a good range of genre which mean something to the authors.

Another visit from Stephanie & Steve. This time Stepahnie will be with a modeel or maybe two in part of the hall and Steve will set up a still life section in another part of the hall. Stephanie is an award winning portraite photographer and Steve has won many awards for his product photography. Remember to bring you cameras.

Cafe Forums are about learning, sharing knowledge and having fun with the months theme. We will put the images on a screen and you can say why you took them, maybe what you have learned or ask advice on how to improve the image. We may not be able to show all your images if we have a lot as we ensure everyone has the same opportunity to discuss their images.
So come and share the images you have taken demonstrating how the following impact the depth of field and experiment to see how you can create something different.

Something different, a genre of photography that generally falls outside the arena of camera club competition. Not just candid photos of people, but an opportunity to capture the essence of our environment and the human condition. Can be done anywhere at any time and the only special equipment required is to install the latest updates to your pre imaging software : Observation and Curiosity. Plenty of images across a range of themes, The majority obtained during unplanned and random explorations of towns and cities.

Richard is a very well known and repsected photographer. He is particularly recognised as portrait and artistic nude photographer but does not limit himself to this genre. His website is well worth a visit 'therealrichardegan.com'. He has used his photoggraphy to raise many thousands for pounds for Cancer Research.

Always an interesting evening to view the prints that were accepted for the YPU exhibition. Several Club members have again had acceptances this year, and some were awarded certificates or trophys - congratulations to all concerned.

Royston lives in Doncaster and has had a life long passion for nature and photography. In 2000 he had the opportunity to set up his own media company producing film for the private and public sector. Lesley is a York based photographer who was awarded her ARPS for her experimental Parallel Lives series. The images were taken with her camera phone and features street scenes and architecture. Scott and his wife Judy are professional photographers based in Namibia. He left the UK to realise a dream of setting up a company in a country that he saw as the most diverse and photogenic he knew. He is an infectious and enthusiast speaker with a quirky sense of humour so it should be an excellent evening.

Thu 22 Jan 2026 - Mersea Inter Club Challenge Trophy
We have been invited to join 11 other clubs from all over the country in this challenge. Each club will submit 6 images, 5 of which will be sent to everyone for judging. The 6th will be used as a tiebrake and included in a minit competition if not needed. It will be interesting to see how the 12 different judges review all the images. Should be a very interesting experience. We can pick images from those already submitted in previous competitions and have to include 6 different authors.

Thu 19 Feb 2026 - ZOOM Talk - Urban Night Photography by Alistair How LRPS, A.APS, T.IAAP
Alistair has had a life long interest in photography starting his career with Kodak when finished his Degree at Southampton University. These days he enjoys sharing his experioence and knowledge with others as wwell as taking photographs. He also provides workshops and acts as a YPU judge. His core interest is landscape but is also a keen city photography, architecture, sports, documentary and travel. This will be a very interesting evening but remember to stay at home as it is over Zoom.

The presentation I suspect is based on the photographs taken for a book produced by John and his wife showing the former industrial towns now that the industries have gone.
